Science Museum of Western Virginia

Where Science is Accessible to All

About

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is a hands-on science center in downtown Roanoke with interactive exhibits, live animal demonstrations, educational programs, and immersive shows in the Eye Planetarium. Founded in 1970 as the first science museum in Virginia, the museum began as a small, teacher-led effort to help students learn science outside the traditional classroom. What started in a single-room space has grown into a 50,000 square-foot museum serving families, students, educators, and curious visitors of all ages. While the museum has grown and changed over the years, its mission remains the same: making science fun, approachable, and connected to everyday life.
